The coefficient of kinetic friction between a refrigerator m

The coefficient of kinetic friction between a refrigerator (mass 91 kg) and the floor is 0.17, and the coefficient of static friction is 0.32. If you apply the minimum force needed to get the refrigerator to move, what will the acceleration then be?

Solution

minimum foce will be equal to the maximum static friction force.

F = us N = us mg = 0.32 x 91 x 9.81 = 285.67 N

once it starts sliding then static frictiion will not act and kinetic friction starts acting.

so now friction force f = uk mg = 0.17 x 91 x 9.81 = 151.76 N

now net force on refigerator will be F - f

using Fnet = ma

F - f = ma

285.67 - 151.76 = 91 a

a = 1.47 m/s^2
