The Policy Cycle
As noted in the readings, the policy cycle consists of eight stages: agenda setting, problem definition, alternative selection, authoritative decision, policy design, program implementation, program evaluation, and termination or change (Cropf, p. 259). In a two- to three-paragraph posting, select one of these eight stages and identify why this stage is important in the policy cycle.
Solution
Program implementation is an important stage in the policy cycle. It is in this stage that policies are translated into concrete actions. The legislative meaning and objective of the policy is translated into practical guidelines and rules. Program implementation helps the policy get off the ground.
At this stage of policy cycle, it is important that there should be no ambiguities in the literature and wordings of the policy. This will help in effective translation of policies into practical guidelines and rules. This stage of policy cycle should also ensure that policy is coordinated with ongoing operations.
