your lab partner inoculated a PRB glucose tube with bacterium that is able to ferment glucose and produce gas and puts it in the 37C incubator. By accident he/she leaves the tube in the incubator for five days. what results do you see. give explanation

Solution

Phenol Red Broth : It is use to test fermentation of different sugars hence is called Carbohydrate Fermentation Test

Phenol Red is an acid-base indicator. Acid - base indicator are substances which change colors depending upon the pH of the solution. Phenol red will change from red to yellow when the medium has pH < 6.8 ( more acidic) and red to fuchsia when medium has a pH > 7.4 (less acidic).

Medium: Phenol Red glucose (dextrose)  is used as medium because many microbes ferment glucose they produce gases, mainly carbon dioxide and hydrogen.   These gases bubbles up through the medium and escapes into atmosphere.   Tubes of broth media can be made with inverted tubes called Durham tubes

According question by accidental leaves the tube in the incubator for five days which result in escaping gases namely carbon dioxide and hydrogen filled in the room.
