Explain how changes in climate can influence primary product
Explain how changes in climate can influence primary productivity in an ecosystem.
Solution
Climate is long-term weather pattern which will influence the plant. Climate, plant and the carbon cycle are related in the number of ways. Plants are sensitive to climatic change and they adapt to climatic, atmospheric and soil conditions. Plant productivity is related with the carbon cycle. They transfer carbon by converting carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and water (H2O) into Carbohydrate (C6H12O6) using solar energy by photosynthesis. Conversely, plants release carbon to the atmosphere when they respire (Ajtay et al. 1979; Garnaut 2008). The plant productivity is effected by increase in temperature, CO2 and changes in rainfall. Elevated CO2 will increase productivity in C3 plants. Rise in temperature will decrease the carbon absorption by plants effecting the productivity.
