What should you do if you notice a large disparity in the Vickers diagonals of a single indent on a sample that exhibits uniform mechanical properties?
Solution
The Vickers test designed as a replacement for theBrinnel ball indenter test.
Occasionally the size of the diagonals of the impression dont match. The resaon is becasue of one or two factors:
ANISOTROPY of material
Incorrect application of the Load indenter
Hardness Vickers = 1854 (L/d2)
Load is low.
Can do the test again properly.
If result persists as before, chamge over to KNOOP test which relies on only one diagonal
HK = 14229L/d2
