What is the chipload FPT when cutting steel with a 1 endmill
What is the chipload (FPT) when cutting steel with a 1\" endmill.
Please show work, thank you.
Solution
Chip load(FPT) = CLPT factor * Tool Diameter
CLPT factor depends on material and type of tool we are using. Various catalogs can be used to find CLPT factor for various material and tool diameter combination.
For steel cutting with an end mill, CLPT factor is in the range .0003 - .0006 for this combination.
Alternatively, chip load = Feed rate (inches per minute)/(RPM * Number of flutes)
By selecting optimum Feed rate and RPM, chip load can be obtained for a given end mill.
