1 Sulfuric acid in a 200 weight percent wt solution of sulfu

1.) Sulfuric acid in a 20.0 weight percent (wt%) solution of sulfuric acid in water (specific gravity of sulfuric acid = 1.13 and the molar concentration is 2.3M), flows through a pipe 5.2 centimeters (cm) in diameter at a velocity of 0.80 meters per second (m/s). Find the mass flow rate of the solution and the mass flow rate of sulfuric acid.

Please Please show any and all steps that helped you arrive at your answer!!!!

Solution

mass= density x volume

given sulphuric acid weight percent = 20

specific gravity of sulphuric acid = 1.13

molar concentration = 2.3

diameter of pipe= 5.2 cm

velocity = 0.80m/s

mass flow rate = density x volume

sg=density of fluid/ density of ref fluid

1.13= density of fluid/1000

density= 1130 kg/m3

area= pi/4 x dxd

= 3.14/4x0.8x0.8 = 0.5024 m*2

molar concentration = mass/volume*molecular weight ( molecular weight of sulphuric acid = 98.07g/mol)

2.3= 20/volume*98.07

volume =0.08 m3

mass flow rate = densityxvolume

= 0.08x1130

= 90kg/s
