1) What is meant by ion permeability and conductance?
Solution
Ion permeability: It refers to a measure of how readily an ion can cross a membrane through an open ion channel. If an ion readility crosses the membrane we say that this ion has higher permeability to other ions. Ion permeability can also be defined as the degree or ability of ion to cross the membrane.
Conductance: condictance is the inverse of electrical resistance. If the conductance of the membrane to a particular ion is low, then the resistance to movement of that ion across the membrane is high.
