Neither the beaker nor the Erlenmeyer are extremely accurate
Neither the beaker nor the Erlenmeyer are extremely accurate. They are used when one doesn\'t have to be precise. Whereas the graduated cylinder and pipettes are used when it is necessary to be accurate. Measure 100 ml\'s of H_20 in a beaker. Pour it into an Erlenmeyer flask. Is it still accurate? Pour it into a graduated cylinder. How many ml\'s were you off? Why?
Solution
A. No. Erlenmeyer flask is accurate within 5%
B. Graduated cylinder is accurate within 1%. It will be off by approximately 1 ml. when a 100 ml. of H2O is measured.
C. Erlenmeyer flasks have wide, flat bottoms with short cylindrical necks and are best used for mixing or swirling liquids. The graduations marked on its surface are approximate.
The measurement marking on a graduated cylinder is precise within 1%. They are good volume measuring device.
