In a study of factors related to success in medical school, the dependent variable Y was an overall numerical rating of success during the 4 years of study. The independent variable was a measure of the “authoritarian personality” characteristics of the individual student. Students were arranged into four groups, from very low to very high, on this personality trait. Finally, a concomitant variable X was used, representing the average anxiety level of the student. Carry out an analysis of covariance on the resulting data, and draw conclusions about the relation between the independent and dependent variable when anxiety is controlled as a covariate.

Test assumptions as you see necessary.
Conduct ANCOVA described above and interpret the results. Report the findings.
Evaluate the adjusted means for the data. How do the conclusions from the analysis of covariance differ from those that would be reached if anxiety were not controlled in this way?
