GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a digestive tract disease. That affects the sphincter muscles find in between the esophagus and stomach which causes the looseness of muscles. That looseness causes back flow or reflux of the stomach contents. Therefore, the patient will feel the taste of stomach contents like taste of acidity or bitterness, which also know as heartburn. The disease due to such effects, also calls as Acid reflux. The other cause of the disease is also by hiatal hernia. In hiatal hernia, the stomach shifts up into the chest through an opening in the diaphragm. This may cause the looseness of sphincter muscles or also called lower esophageal sphincter.
