If the pipe diameter is 303 mm instead of 3mm how will this
If the pipe diameter is 3.03 mm instead of 3mm how will this affect the value of friction factor? Moody diagram has only one line for Re less-thanorequalto 2000, but has many lines for Re > 2000. Why? What is your value of epsilon/D? .002 How would h_1 be effected if apparatus was not level? Why does C vary in Herschel Venturi but not in orifice flow?
Solution
2.
For Re <= 2000, the flow is laminar and hence the friction factor is only a function of Re given by f = 64 / Re. Therefore, Moody chart has only one line for Re <= 2000.
But as Re > 2000, the flow becomes turbulent. In this condition, f is a loose function of Re and it also depends on the surface roughness of the pipe. Hence, we see many lines on Moody diagram. Each line corresponds to a particular relative roughness value.
