One of your student colleagues is studying Quantitative Methods and Marketing this
semester. The possibility of passing QUME is 0.6. The possibility of passing MARK
is 0.7. The possibility of passing both courses is 0.5.
What is the probability of passing at least one of the two courses?
Solution
P(passing QUME) = 0.6
P(passing MARK) = 0.7
prob (Both ) = 0.5
Hence prob (Passing atleast one)
= P(A)+P(B)-P(AB)
= P(passing QUME)+P(passing MARK)-prob (Both )
= 0.6+0.7-0.5
= 0.8
