You have been assigned to purchase tanks for storing dry N2

You have been assigned to purchase tanks for storing dry N_2 gas for your employer. The plan calls for six tanks, each able to hold 6 lb_m of N_2 gas at a maximum temperature of 180 degree F. The budget for this project is $4, 500 and your company awards units for coming in under budget on projects. You have received the following three bids: ABC Corp. - Six 0.27 ft^3 volume model C-2 tanks, $595/en., plus $180 total shipping XYZ Inc. - Six A - 10 tanks with 0.27 ft^3 volume, burst strength of 7.500 psi. Cost is $650/ca., plus total shipping. They also offer a \"premium\" for first time orders consisting of your choice of a titanium driver or a graphite fishing rod. OOPSie Co. (a subsidiary of OOPS, Inc.) - Six model Z-27 tanks with the following specs: 0.27 ft^3 volume, rated for max pressure of 550 atm. Price: $800/ea. (price includes shipping) When you called the sales rep for ABC and asked about the pressure rating on their tanks, he stated. \"Oh, let\'s see, you\'ll be looking at around 5500 psi. Don\'t worry, we stand by our products.\" What will be the true pressure in the tanks at the conditions given? Give a short (one, two sentence) analysis of each companies hid including safety and ethical considerations. What would be your recommendation?

Solution

solution:

1)in above case mass is m=6 lb

v=.27 ft^3

density in tank=m/v=22.22 lb/ft^3 or 355.9 kg/m^3

at this density or compressibity level pressure at 100 egree would be

p=541 bar

2)here company ABC providing tank at cost of 4650 dollar close to budget,but there strength is only upto 379.22 bar hence this tank are not suitable from safety point of view

3) XYZ company providing tank which can sustain presure upto 517.125 bar only, but cost only 4200 dollar but it wouldn\'t sustain this pressure hence it is not suitable from safety side

4)OOpsic company providing tank have capacity of 557.287 bar and they can sustain this pressure and good from safety side but they are costly as 4800 dollar still they are good from safety side

5)i would recommend to purchase tank from OOPsic company as they are safe
