If you are a manager in a power company to design a power plant, please identify and quantify the full range of short term, long term, local and global impacts of the project on society, including economic ascepts, social, cultural and human health aspects and ecosystem integrity aspects.
Solution
installing a power plant might be a very challenging step for a firm . it has very long lasting effects on the society and the ecosystem as well . i would not like to be biased but it is a necessity that we describe the pros and cons of setting up this project .
short term effects;
cultural :the project would promise employment to a lot of locals and thus improving the economy of the society as a whole . and in the beginning it would lead to a little unrest in the society and the firm has to face varied opinions amongst the locals and sometimes a lot of resistance from them. after setting up this might become the part of their society and they will have to start accepting this , on a positive note due to the this project there would be non local employees coming and settling down in the place .
ecological: initial steps may include acquiring land that might be agricultural or forest land which is of concern to the ecology . in case its a thermal power plant there will be emission of toxic gases which would pollute the surroundings . though we have renewable energy resources , they would require comparatively more land than the thermal stations . there is always a trade off . so the decisions have to be optimized.
economy : economy would see a rapid surge in the society as there would be investments not just for the power plant but on account of it there would be numerous other firms setting up their industries . thus increasing the employability of the locals and promoting the already existing businesses as well . this project would definitely open up a whole new market . on a long term there would be a rapid increase in the income of the people.
Human Health : human health is always of prime concern but if its in a thermal plant the exposure to fossil fuel emissions would definitely create problems for the people . on a long term they would develop serious hazards if a renewable energy sources are not chosen .
to conclude we\'d say that as a whole there would be a positive effect on the economy but wise decisions are to be made in selecting the resources that would be used .
