Find an equation of the ellipse that satisfies the given conditions. Vertices (0, plusorminus 4); endpoints of minor axis (plusorminus 5, 0)

Solution

vertices ( 0 , +- 4 ) , endpoints of minor axis ( +- 5 , 0 )

standard equation of ellipse is given by

(x-h)^2 / a^2 + ( y-k)^2 / b^2 = 1

where , h , k is the centre of the ellipse , a is major axis , b is minor axis

here centre of teh ellipse is the origin

length of major axis 2a = 8 , a = 4

length of minor axis = 2b = 10 , b = 5

hence, equation of ellipse is

(y^2/16) + (x^2 / 25) = 1

Find an equation of the ellipse that satisfies the given conditions. Vertices (0, plusorminus 4); endpoints of minor axis (plusorminus 5, 0) Solutionvertices (
