When meshing you have two options; free and mapped. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of each of the methods? Give an example of when you would use each method and justify why?

advantages of free meshing :

1. Easy to create the geometry.

2. Meshing takes less time.

Disadvantages of free meshing.

1. Sometimes triangular elements are used.

2. The element qualities may not be as superior as created in mapped meshing. (i.e aspect ratios etc)

Advantages of mapped meshing

1. There is proper control over meshing.

2. The mesh is more accurate.

disadvantages of mapped meshing

1. It takes more time to mesh.

The free meshing is used when the geometry is simple and the mapped meshing is used when the geometry is complex and accurate results are required.(Since it uses the quad elements more than the tet elements)
