How do the following functions vary over a 24 hour period?
Body Temperature
Blood Pressure
Heart Rate
Respiratory Rate
Solution
Blood Pressure:
The normal blood pressure around the 24- hour period is 120/80 mm of Hg but varies with exercise and daily activities when performing running. Increased cardiac output associated blood pressure and heart rate indicates that, cardiac muscles contract more forcefully at a higher rate than the normal. Thus, increased heart rate and cardiac output are associated with the increased rate of respiration and oxygen consumption.
Highest blood pressure (130/90 mm of Hg) observed after aerobic exercise due increased heart rate followed by more blood pressure when standing later sitting finally mild to low blood pressure when reclining 118/58 mm of Hg.
Body Temperature:
The normal body temperature around the 24 -hour period can range from 97.8 degrees F to 99 degrees F (37.2C) in a healthy individual and temperature is regulated by hypothalamus and liver for a healthy adult but varies with metabolic rate (BMR) & with fever or infections
Heart Rate
The normal circadian rhythm associated with heart rate varies over the 24- hour period & it is lower between 1 am to 4pm because of lower temperature at 1am-4am whereas highest heart rate observed at 6pm. Therefore, the normal pulse or heart rate varies between 60 to 100 beats per minute but changes with fever, infections, exercise etc.
Respiratory Rate
Respiration rates have meticulously in the range of 12 - 16 breaths/minute and supply adequate oxygen to the body but this is going to fluctuate with asthmatic fever and with other medical conditions.
