The same coop student calculates the area of lot 2 shown in
The same coop student calculates the area of lot 2 shown in Fig. P3.5 as 50,000 m^2. Is this the correct answer? If not, find the correct answer. Dimension of lot 2 in the new subdivision.
Solution
area of lot 2 = area of rectangle - area of triangle
area of rectangle = 200m * 300m = 60000m^2
for area of triangle use formula 1/2 * base * height
calculating height from tan formula
applying tan formula on the triangle whose angle is (120 - 90) = 30 degrees
tan 30 = height / base
base = 200 m
height = tan 30 * 200 = 115.47 m
therefore, area of triangle = 1/2 * 200 * 115.47 = 11547.005 sq m
so, area of lot 2 = 60000 - 11547.005 = 48453 m^2
