1 point A metal conduit will be used as a pathway for wiring

(1 point) A metal conduit will be used as a pathway for wiring through a concrete block. The conduit is a

5 foot long rod with an outer diameter of 2.2 inches and an inner diameter of 2 inches. What is the volume of metal in the conduit in cubic centimeters?

(answer in cm^3)

Solution

5 feet = 5 (12) = 60 inches

outer diameter = 2.2 inches

==> outer radius = (2.2)/2 inches = 1.1 inches

inner diameter = 2 inches

==> inner radius = 2/2 inches = 1 inch

Volume of metal = (volume by outer surface - volume by inner surface)

==> Volume of metal = ((1.1)2(60) - (1)2(60))

==> V = 60[(1.1)2 -1]

==> V = 60[1.21 -1]

==> V = 60(0.21)

==> V = 39.584 inch3

we know that 1 inch = 2.54 cm

==> V = 39.584 (2.54 cm)3

==> V = (39.584)(2.54)3 cm3

==> V = 648.67 cm3
