Dimension the holes and shafts for the required linear toler

Dimension the holes and shafts for the required linear tolerance. Calculate the hole tolerance, shaft tolerance, maximum clearance and allowance

Solution

For type of fit R3: Hole is H7 and Shaft is f6

The Standard tolerance limits are

For hole H7- 0 to 1.2( in)

For shaft f6- -1.2 to -1.9( in)

The hole tolerance= upper limit -lower limit=1.2-0=1.2 in=0.0012 in

The shaft tolerance= upper limit -lower limit=-1.2-(-1.9)=0.7 in=0.0007 in

Max. hole size=Basic size+upper limit=2+0.0012=2.0012 in

Min. shaft size=Basic size+lower limit=2-0.0019=1.9981

Maximum Clearance= Max. hole size- Min. shaft size=2.0012-1.9981=0.0031 in

Min. hole size=Basic size+ lower limit=2+0=2 in

Max. shaft size=Basic size+ upper limit=2-0.0012=1.9988

Minimum clearance=Min. hole size- Max.shaft size=2-1.9988=0.0012in

Allowance =Maximum clearance- Minimum clearance=0.0031-0.0012=0.0019in

The hole tolerance= upper limit -lower limit=1.2-0=1.2 in=0.0012 in
