Given the following information (ignore the top posts on the LEGO bricks):

The short blocks have a thickness of 3.20±.01 mm

The tall blocks have a thickness of 9.60±.01 mm

When the stack is the TALLEST: Where will there be gaps between the parts?

Question 2 options:

EITHER OF THE LOCATIONS CIRCLED IN RED

EITHER OF THE LOCATIONS CIRCLED IN BLUE

BOTH THE RED AND THE BLUE CIRCLED LOCATIONS

NEITHER OF THE CIRCLED LOCATIONS

1-

EITHER OF THE LOCATIONS CIRCLED IN RED

2-

EITHER OF THE LOCATIONS CIRCLED IN BLUE

3-

BOTH THE RED AND THE BLUE CIRCLED LOCATIONS

4-

NEITHER OF THE CIRCLED LOCATIONS

Solution

>> Now, as tolerance of each smaller block is 0.1 mm

and, of taller block is also 0.1 mm

But, seeing thickness wise, One Taller Block is equal to three smaller blocks

>> Now, assume the case, when taller block is made first with its maximum thickness, i.e. 9.6 + 0.1 = 9.7 mm

The, all smaller blocks can be made to complete this task.

>> But, if all smaller blocks are made with their tolerances i.e. their maximum thickness of 3.2 + 0.1 = 3.3 mm

Then total thickness will be 9.9 mm

But, taller block can be upto only 9.7 mm

So, there will be a gap of9.9 - 9.7 = 0.2 mm , in BLUE Locations...

So, Option is (2).......ANSWER......
