My book is \"Stats modeling the world\" AP edition. If you are familiar with this book I am trying to solve Pg 238 #2, and #8. More models, for each of the models listed below, predict y when x = 2. a.) y = 1.2 + 0.8 log x b.) log y = 1.2 + 0.8x c.) y = 1.2 + 0.8 V- (looks like a check) symbol. d.) y = 1.2(0.8x(the x upper right) e.) y = ..0.8x2 (2 is listed upper right) + 1.2x + 1 Also can you please tell me if you have access to this book? I am trying to solve # 8 on PG 240 as well. The y\'s have a ^ symbol above them.

Solution

a)   y = 1.2 + 0.8 log x........so, x=2.. y = 1.2 + 0.8 ( log2)..y=1.75452.....
b)  log y = 1.2 + 0.8x..... = 1.2 + (0.8*2) = 2.8.....so, logy=2.8...y = e^(2.8) =16.44647...
c) y = 1.2 + 0.8*( sqrt ( x) ) (is this you are talking about?? )..
then, y = 1.2 + ( 0.8 * sqrt(2) ) = 2.33137.......

d) y = 1.2 ( 0.8 ^x).....y = 1.2( 0.8 ^ 2 ) = 0.768...

e) y = 0.8* x^2.....y = 0.8*( 2^2) = 3.2...
