PIPING COMBINATIONS Compute the flowrate in each pipeline assuming that there is 850 gpm entering at Junction A and 500 gpm exiting at Junction B. 650 LF 8\" PVC (C-90) 400 LF 6\" PVC (C=150) Water system schematic with two pipes (Plan View)

Solution

SOLUTION :

Entering Volume flow = 850 gpm

Exiting Volume flow = 500 gpm

Average Volume Flow thrugh A to B (q) = (850+500)/2 = 675 gpm

v = 0.4084 q / d2

d = 6\" Dia Pvc and 8\" dia Pvc

V1 = 0.4084 (675) / (6)2 =7.65 ft/s

V2 = 0.4084 (675) / (8)2 =4.31 ft/s

Now we can find Flow rate Q = A * V

A1 = (3.14 / 4) * (0.5)2 = 0.196 ft2

A2 = (3.14 / 4) * (0.67)2 = 0.35 ft2

For 6\" Dia Pipe flow rate of the pipe

Q1 = A1 * V1 = 7.65 * 0.196 = 1.5 ft3 / s

For 8\" Dia Pipe flow rate of the pipe

Q2 = A2 * V2 = 4.31 * 0.35 = 1.5 ft3 / s

 PIPING COMBINATIONS Compute the flowrate in each pipeline assuming that there is 850 gpm entering at Junction A and 500 gpm exiting at Junction B. 650 LF 8\
