A microscope is an optical instrument used to magnify small objects.

In simple microscope, a single convex lens is used and in compound microscope more number of lens are used.Brightfield microscope is named so because specimen is dark and contrasted by the surrounding bright viewing field. Simple light microscopes are sometimes referred to as brightfield microscopes.

A compound microscope is used to view smaller specimens such as cell structures.It has higher levels of magnification because of several lenses.

How compound microscope works----

A compound microscope uses a lens close to the object being viewed to collect light which focuses a real image of the object inside the microscope. This image is then magnified by a second lens or group of lenses (called the eyepiece) that gives the enlarged or bigger inverted virtual image of the object.

The three basic, structural components of a compound microscope are the head, base and arm.
