Can you use the superposition principle to find V Six partic

Can you use the superposition principle to find V? Six particles are arranged in an arc as shown. Two of the particles each have a charge of -q. All other particles have a charge of +q. All particles are a distance r from the center point A. Write an expression ofr the potential V at the center point A. Use k ofr the Coulomb constant.

Solution

the expression for potential at distance r from a point charge q is

V= k*q/r,

as potential is a scalar quantity, when we are finding potential due to several point charges we have to add them.

so potential at point A due to 6 charges is given by,

V= k*q/r + k*q/r + k*(-q)/r + k*q/r + k*q/r + k*(-q)/r = 4*k*q/r

so V= 4*k*q/r.
