1) Describe the parts of the nervous system that are necessary for it to possess electrical properties.
Solution
Nervous system is the most important organ system of our body as it controls all the movements , actions directly or indirectly. So now this system is divided into two, central and peripheral.
As we know central nervous system is the largest part of the nervous system comprising of brain and spinal cord enclosed in bony skeleton ( skull and vertebral column).
Neuron is the structural and functional unit of this system which transmits the information, stimulusor response.
So now this neuron transmits these impulses to a series of neuron and their network beforr reaching brain or spinal cord where these stimulus or info is integrated and sent back to the receptor or target organ.
The impulse travel through series of depolarisation and repolarisation events, where in the membrane potential of the excitatory membrane changes as the stimulus propagates through axon.
Voltage gated sodium and pottasium pumps/ channels are present in these membranes that control the potentials .other ions such as calcium, chlorine also play a major role.
A refractory phase follows after succesive stages of polarisations wherin the neuron does not generate any action potential regardless of the amount of stimulus provided. It is the rest phase where it prepares itself for next stimulus
