From the reference table provided

We have pinion rpm = 1600

and power transmitted = 8 hp

Therefore from table, smallest gear available for safe operation

is for 10 hp & 1800 rpm   = 8 mm diametrical pitch (13th row 7th column)

For gear selection we go for 10 hp and 300 rpm

and diametrical pitch = 6 mm (13th row 3rd column)
