A steel sheet is bent to a radius of 15 mm. Its thickness is t=0.1 mm. Assuming that its yield stress is 250MPa and E=200 GPa, Calculate the final radius of the part. Find the springback factor.

Solution

The radius of the bend in the sheet that occurs between the bend lines, measured from the bend axis to the inside surface of the material.

Final Bend Radius =15

Assume Initial Bend Angle (°)= 90

Final Bend Angle

The angle to which the sheet has been bent, measured between the bent position and the original position, or as the included angle between perpendicular lines drawn from the bend lines.

Final Bend Angle (°) = 41

The ratio of the final bend angle to the larger initial bend angle, indicating the amount of springback that has occured due to the elastic recovery of the sheet metal.

Springback factor Ks:      0.46
