A simple ideal Rankine cycle operates between the pressure limits of 10 kPa and 4 MPa, with a turbine inlet temperature of 500 degree C. Find the mass fraction of steam that condenses at the turbine.

Solution

at turbine inlet

at P=4 Mpa ,T=500 oC =>s=7.0909 KJ/Kg-K

at turbine exit

P=10 Kpa

For ideal Sout=Sin

X=(S-Sf)/Sfg =(7.0909-0.6493)/7.5018

X=0.86

Condensed fracrion =1-X =1-0.86

Condensed fracrion =0.14 or 14 %
