Part A If 735nm and 610nm light passes through two slits 058

Part A

If 735-nm and 610-nm light passes through two slits 0.58 mm apart, how far apart are the second-order fringes for these two wavelengths on a screen 1.0 m away? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Solution

wavelength1 = 735 nm

wavelength2 = 610 nm

slit separation , d = 0.58 mm

screen distance, D = 1 m

Now , for the second order bright fringe

distance between fringes = 2 * (wavelength1 - wavelength2) * D/d

distance between fringes = 2 * (735 - 610) * 10^-9 * 1)/(0.58 *10^-3)

distance between fringes = 0.0004310 =  4.31 *10^-4 m
