The distance between two successive minimize of a transverse wave is 3.31 m. Five crests of the wave pass a given along the direction of travel every 13.4 s. Find the frequency of the wave. Find the wave speed.

Solution

a) Time period of the wave is

                  T = 13.4 / 4.5 = 2.977 s

    frequency of the wave is

                 f = 1 / T   = 0.335 Hz

b) speed of wave is

               v = 2 d / T

                    = 2( 3.31 m ) / 2.977 s

                    = 2.223 m/s
