You and a friend decide to race each other. However, your friend is faster than you are. You can run at a maximum speed of 6 m/s. Your friend can run at a maximum speed of 8 m/s. To make things fair, you get to start running from a point closer to the finish line. If your friend starts 100 m away from the finish line, where should you start so that you both arrive at the finish line at the same time?

Solution

Ans:my speed=6m/s ; friend speed=8m/s.

Since my friend is 40m away from finishing line . So, time required for my friend to finish the race=40/8 s=5 sec

And both of us will reach the finishing line at same time. So, my running time is also 5 sec.

Ans my speed is 6m/s.

Hence I start 6*5 m=30m away from the finishing line.Or 10m advance then my friend.
