A piston-cylinder device contains 0.261 kg of refngerant-134a at -10degreeC. The piston that is free to move has a mass of 10.85 kg and a diameter of 23.77 cm. The local atmospheric pressure is 88 kPa. Now. heat is transferred to the refngerant-134a until the temperature is 15degreeC. Determine the final pressure, the change in the volume of the cylinder. and (c) the change in the enthalpy of the refngerant-134a.

Solution

Answer:

Ptotal = P0 + Mg/A

= 88000 + 10.85 x 9.81/ [(0.23/2)2 x 3.14] = 88000 + 2562 =90562 pascal = 90.52 Kpasc

(2) work done = change in its internal energy = m Cp dT = 0.261 Kg x Cp x dT

  p dV = 0.261 Kg x Cp x dT

dV =  0.261 Kg x Cp x dT / 90.52 Kpasc

(3) p dV =  0.261 Kg x Cp x dT
