A circular cam of diameter 100 mm has an eccentric axis of r

A circular cam of diameter 100 mm has an eccentric axis of rotation which is offset 30 mm from the center. When used with a knife follower with its line of actrion passing through the center of retation, what will be the difference between the maximum and minimum displacements of the follower?

Solution

solution:

1)cam is shape which are used to produce resiprocating or oscillatrory motion of follower

2) circular cam will produce displacement of follower in plane perpendicular to plane of roatation of cam

3)here circular cam is used to provide resiprocating or oscillatory motion to follower which is knife edge follower and center of rotation is at offset of 30 mm from axis of rotation

4) here minimum follower displacement from center of rotation of cam=Xmin=R-eccentricity

D=100 mm,eccentricity=30 mm,R=50mm

Xmin=50-30=20 mm

and maximum displacement of follower from axis of rotation of cam will obtained at cam angle of 180 reference to trace point at minimum follower displacement of 20 mm

hence Xmax=R+eccentricity

Xmax=50+30

Xmax=80 mm

5) hence difference between Xmax and Xmin is as follows

difference=Xmax-Xmin

difference=80-20

difference=60 mm

6) hence follower will produced

minimum lift=0 mm at Xmin

maximum lift=60 mm at Xmax

difference in lift of follower=max lift-min lift=60-0=60mm
