In a given population of 610 individuals the gene frequency
In a given population of 610 individuals, the gene frequency of the L^m and L^n alleles were found to be 0.62 and 0.38 receptively. Calculate the number of individuals with M, MN, and N blood types.
Solution
Answer :
Lm=0.62
Ln=0.38
Total individuals = 610
p=Lm=0.62
q=Ln=0.38
Hardy weinberg equation
p^2 +2pq+q^2=1
p^2 = number of M individuals
q^2=number of N individuals
2pq=number of MN individuals
p^2=0.62 x 0.62 = 0.384
q^2 = 0.38 x 0.38 =0.144
2pq= 2 x 0.62 x 0.38 = 0.47
Among 200 individuals
(1) 38% are p^2, that means 610 x 0.384 =234 are M blood type individuals
(2) 610 x 0.144 =88 are N blood type individuals
(3) 610 x 0.47 =287 are MN blood type individuals
