First train starts at 3 pm.

So, distance covered by first train till 4 pm = Speed * Time = 4mph * 1 hr = 4 m

Now, second train starts at 4 pm at the same route.

Therefore distance between second and first train is \"4 m\" with first train obviously ahead of second train.

Now, we know when trains are travelling in the same direction then relative speed is difference of the two.

Thereofre, Relative speed of second train with respect to first train will be ( 80 - 4 ) mph = 76 mph

Distance to be covered by second train to overtake the first train = 4 m

Therefore, Time taken by second train to overtake the first train be T = Distance / Relative Speed

T = 4/76 = 1 / 19 hr = (1/19)*60 minutes

T = 3.18 minutes
