Experimental data for the motion of a particle along a strai

Experimental data for the motion of a particle along a straight line yield measured values of the velocity V for various displacements S. A smooth curve is drawn through through the points as shown in the graph. Determine the acceleration of the particle when S = 40 m.

Solution

Formula for acceleration is (a) = v^2/t

Here we know the velocity bt don\'t know the time, so we have to calcukate the time at a distance of 40m.

From the graph velocity at a distance of 40m is 15m/s

V = s/t

From this. time (t) = s/v

= 40/15 = 2.667 sec

Therefore acceleration. = 15^2/2.667

84.365 m^2/sec
