My wife Margie has lost most of her accommodation. She has a nearpoint of 170 cm and would like to read as close as 35 cm from her eyes. What power reading glasses should Margie use? Assume the lenses in the glasses are 2 cm from the eye. What is Margie\'s far point while wearing reading glasses? My right eye\'s nearpoint is 5 cm and farpoint is 11 cm. What power contact lens should I use to see faraway objects with a relaxed eye. What is the nearpoint of my left eye while wearing the contact lens of part A)?Solution
The near point is defined as the closest distance on which the eye can focus. \"Normal\" vision is usually considered to be vision with a near point of 25cm25cm. So, say there is a person who has a near point of 100cm100cm rather than the normal 25cm25cm. To correct this vision, his/her prescription should be designed so that the lenses will take an object at 25cm25cm and create a virtual image at 100cm100cm, so the \"non-normal\" eye can see it.
Hence in this case the virtual image has to be at 175cm and the object distance at 35 cm
1/f = 1/v - 1/u
f = uv/u-v
f = 175*35/140 = 43.75 cm
The far point for maggie will be
v = fu/f-u
v = 2.09 cm
As the eye is hypermetropic
