A total station measures a slope distance L of 159827 feet a

A total station measures a slope distance (L) of 1598.27 feet at a zenith angle (z) of 93\'29\'14\'. h_a and h_l are both 5.25 ft. Elevations at A and B are 1234.56 ft. and 789.10, respectively. Compute the vertical angle a. Compute distance d.

Solution

a) From the diagram provided

     Angle z   = 93 + 29/60 + 14/3600   = 93.48722

     Angle alpha = angle z - 90 deg

                        = 93.48722 - 90    = 3.48722 deg

b) d = L * sin(alpha)

    d   = 1598.27 * sin(3.48722)   =   97.2162 ft

c) H = L * cos(alpha)

    d   = 1598.27 * cos(3.48722)   =   1595.3106 ft

 A total station measures a slope distance (L) of 1598.27 feet at a zenith angle (z) of 93\'29\'14\'. h_a and h_l are both 5.25 ft. Elevations at A and B are 12
