Solution

Pain is an effective communication tool of the body, wherein any damage is the body is communicated to the brain. According to The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), The pain is defined as, \"an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage.\"

On the basis of its severity, the pain can be classified into two types, acute and chronic. Temporary pain is called acute pain and the pain persistent for a long time is called chronic pain.

On the basis of the origin of pain, SCI classified pain into three types, viz., somatic, visceral and neuropathic. Somatic pain originates from the pain receptors in body surface or musculoskeletal tissues, visceral pain is related to the pain in the internal organs, and the neuropathic pain is associated with the nerves (somatosensory system). Nociceptive pain in the pain associated with the nerves involved with the sensory nervous system.

The only way to assess pain is reporting by the patient. The intensity of the pain may be assessed by providing the patients with McGill Pain Questionaire that evaluates the psychological state of the patient and also ask the patient to report their pain on the scale of 1-10; \'0\' for no pain and \'10\' for the worst pain.
