from 1 to 2.

Solution

Given: y = - 2x2+3   from 1 to 2

Here, a =1 and b =2

by the average rate of change formula: A(x) = { f(b) - f(a) } / (b - a)

f(b) = -2(2)2+3

      = -8+3

      = -5

f(a) = -2(1)2 +3

      = -2+3

       = 1

Now by the formula putting values of f(b) and f(a), we get;

      average rate of change =   (-5 -1)/ (2-1)

                                             = - 6/1 = -6
