Sample question: At one locus, a population of 10 bobcats has 5(AA), 4(Aa), and l(aa). What is f(Aa) in this population? 0.1 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.7 What is f(A) in this population? 0.1 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.7 Under HWE what is the expected frequency of Aa? 0.1 0.3 0.4 0.5 0.7

Solution

Totasl number of bobcats = 10

1. Frequency of genotype (Aa) = 4 / 1 = 0.4. Option c is correct.

2. Frequency of genotype (AA) = 5/10 = 0.5

Frequency of A = 0.71. Option e is correct.

3. Under HWE, frequency of Aa is:

Frequency of a = 1 - A = 1- 0.71 = 0.29

According to HWE = p2 + 2pq + q2

                         = (0.71)2 + 2 (0.71)(0.29) + (0.29)2 = 0.50 + 0.411 + 0.08 = 0.991

Frequency of Aa =0.411. Option c is correct
