How do the walls of the right ventricle compare with the wal

How do the walls of the right ventricle compare with the walls of the left ventricle? Why are they different? What is the purpose of heart valves? Name and compare the heart valves found between the upper & lower chambers of the right and left sides of the heart. Vessels that carry blood away from the heart are called, while carry blood toward the heart. Which artery is the largest and why? What is the purpose of the coronary artery and what results if there is blockage in this vessel? Can an artery carry deoxygenated? Please explain. Using words, trace blood flow through the major blood vessels and heart, starting with deoxygenated blood returned from the body.

Solution

7.The walls of the left ventricle has thicker walls than the right ventricle. The reason is that left ventricle experiences more force as it has to pump blood to all parts of the body in comparision to right ventricle that pumps blood to the lungs only.

8.The purpose of heart valves is to allow the flow of blood between the chambers of the heart and also prevents the back flow of blood while doing the same.

9.There are 4 valves in the heart: They are the mitral valve, the tricuspid valve, the aortic valve and the pulmonary valve.Mitral valve is located between left atrium and ventricle in heart while tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and ventricle of heart.Aortic valve is a semilunar valve located between left ventricle and aorta in heart while pulmanary valve is a semilunar valve located between the right ventricle and pulmonary artery in heart.

10.Vessels that carry blood way from the heart are called arteries while veins carry blood towards the heart.

11.The largest artery is aorta. This is because it arises from the heart and carries blood to all parts of the bdy through various arteries (except pulmonary artery) that arises from it.

12.The purpose of coronary artery is to pump oxygenated blood to muscles of the heart. In case of blockage of coronary artery, blod flow to he heart is reduced thereby causing heart attack or angina.

13.Yes,an artery can carry deoxygenated blood and that is the pulmonary artery that carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle of the heart to the lungs.

14.Pathway of deoxygenated blood:

Deoxygenated blood----Superior and inferior venacava --------- to atrium------ tricuspid valve ------right ventricle-----pulmonary valve--------pulmonary artery--------lungs--------oxygenated blood-----pulmonary veins----------left atrium------mitral valve-------left ventricle-------aortic valve--------aorta ------arteries------ to all parts of body
