During phagocytosis cellular membrane projections will wrap
During phagocytosis, cellular membrane projections will \"wrap around\" a target. What are these cellular projections called?
Solution
The process of phagocytosis was first noticed by William Osler in 1876. Phagocytosis is a process in which cell engulfs a particle, digests it and expels the waste products.
In case of single celled organisms, phagocytosis is the process of feeding (example in amoeba), where as in multicellular organisms it forms the first line of defense system as in immune process (immune cell such macrophage).
The cellular projections are called as pseudopodia (false feet).
