The multiple of a number to get another number.

Hey guys this is a \" kind of\" a basic math question, but I have no idea how to go about it.

If I have a number let\'s say 40 and I want to multiply it by a number to get 50, what is the best way to go about that?

I know in this case the answer is 1.25. However, I need a good method for complicated numbers.

Solution

Start by assuming the number to be X

So when we multiply X and 40 we get 50

X*40=50

X=50/40 (Divide both sides by 40 to isolate X)

X=1.25
