For the recent year the following are the numbers of homicid
For the recent year, the following are the numbers of homicides that occurred each month in the city. Use 0.05 significance level to test the claim that homicides in the city are equally likely for each of the 12 months. State Hypotheses: Make a table of Expected counts of crimes monthly. Demonstrate the work to compute test statistic chi^2. (You don\'t have to do a real work, just show how did you apply the formula, the result is in d) bellow) The test statistics computed in c) chi^2 = 11.468. P-value. Box your answer. Make a conclusion by using proper words.
Solution
H0: Homicides are equally likely in all the months
Ha: Homicides are different for atleast 2 months
Two tailed test
Alpha = 0.05
df = 11
Expected counts = 513/12 for each month
Chi square is calculated as (O-E)^2 /E
where O is observed and E is expected frequency
p = 0.404928. The result is not significant at p < 0.05.
Accept null hypothesis
There is statistical evidence to prove that all are equally likely
