The water skier in the figureFigure 1 is at an angle of 35 w

The water skier in the figure(Figure 1) is at an angle of 35 with respect to the center line of the boat, and is being pulled at a constant speed of 13 m/s . If the tension in the tow rope is 90.0 N , how much work does the rope do on the skier in 30.0 s ? How much work does the resistive force of water do on the skier in the same time?

Solution

work = F * delta x * cos theta

= 90 * (13 * 30) * cos 35

= 28746 J = 28 kJ

----------------------------------------------------

W = delta K = 0 = Wrope + Wresist

Wresist = - 28 kJ
