Each part of Figure 2-84 shows oscilloscope displays of rectifier output voltages. In each case, determine whether or not the rectifier is functioning properly and, if it is not, what is (are) the most likely failure(s). Assume all displays are set for the same time per division. Output of a half-wave full- unfiltered rectifier Output of a full-wave unfiltered rectifier Output of a full-wave filter Output of same full-wave filter as part (c)

Solution

part (a) is right.

Diode conducts for half cycle as shown in figure for given full cycle in the half wave rectifier.

part(b) is wrong.\'

For full wave unfiltered rectifier(mid point) each diode conducts for half cycle.

but in the figure the output voltage for one half cycle is equal to zero.i.e one diode is not working(not conducting),if it is bridge rectifier then failure of one of the four diodes causes this type of waveform.

part(c) is right.

for full wave rectifier the output waveform with filter is same as shown in given figure(2 half cycles)\'

part(d) is wrong because the given output waveform is for half wave rectifier(i.e. failure of one diode(not conducting) causes this failure)

Each part of Figure 2-84 shows oscilloscope displays of rectifier output voltages. In each case, determine whether or not the rectifier is functioning properly
