ooo TMobile Wi-Fi 5:21 PM Discussions Chinese scientists recently announced that they have successfully modified the genomes of human embryos utilizing a new gene-editing technique known as CRISPR/Cas9. CRISPR/Cas9 is an enzyme complex that can be used to target and modify specific sequences of DNA. In this study, the scientists modified the genomes of non-viable human embryos, or embryos that would not result in a live birth due to extreme genetic abnormalities. While they were able to modify the targeted gene, they also found that there were other unintended mutations elsewhere in the genomes, indicating that the technique will require more research to improve its specificity.See the following article reporting on this news for more details: Chinese scientists genetically modify human embryos (Nature) http: Awww.nature.com/news/ chinese-scientists genetically-modify human- embryos 1.173Z8 While the gene-editing CRISPR/Cas9 technique has already been used to modify genes in human adult cells and in embryos of other animal species,
